Born in 1958, Anne Cardot is a French artist who lives and works in , working in the fields of drawing, sculpture and digital arts. A graduate of the École supérieure Duperré in 1981 and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1986, she subsequently completed a Master MEEF in teaching applied arts and design in Strasbourg between 2012 and 2015. Her artistic practice is at the crossroads of the figurative and the abstract, uniting influences as diverse as Coysevox, Goya, Rembrandt, Tàpies, and Joan Mitchell.
Using a variety of materials, such as watercolor, ink, acrylic and gouache on paper, as well as sculpture in bronze, plaster and cement, Cardot expresses an artistic vision that explores transience and human fragility. For her, the liquid or malleable medium, such as clay or plaster, allows her to embrace the ephemeral and give form to this fragility that she considers a force. Her work, both introspective and experimental, translates a profound reflection on materiality and impermanence.
Cardot's artistic approach consists of accepting the unexpected and letting matter come to life, sometimes escaping the artist's control to become a work in itself, autonomous. For her, creation is an encounter between human will and the concrete reality of matter, highlighting our complex relationship with the world around us.
