Feu Follet Painting by Claire Hamant

Claire Hamant has gone from the lights of Northern to those of the Ile de . Light, always light, is fundamental for this artist. Her explorations are in the realm of light and transparency.

Painting is a revelation to her, as experienced through the works of Zao Wou Ki. Her quest, however, does shy away from delving into shadows.

After a training in Helene Legrand's workshop, Claire Hamant uses ink projections covered with glacis: a subtle and elaborate technique.

Space is set free with successive layers; projections and interpretations rise to the surface. Claire Hamant highlights the unspoken: transparency therefore serves to lift the veil and to unveil.

One is led to dive deeper - into the work, into oneself – and then plunges into colour and is submerged, inevitably to resurface. In this way the artist comes into harmony with the music of the spheres and the realm of the infinite.

Seismograph to the universe, she takes other paths, strengthening the densities of matte in order to create extreme transparencies.

As wrote Shi-Tao, Philosopher: "If we use the unique line of a brush as a measure, then it becomes possible to participate in the metamorphoses of the universe, to sound the forms of mountains and rivers, to measure the distant unlimitedness of the earth, to gauge the dark secrets of clouds and mists"
