Damien Mauro, also known as Goddog, is a French artist born in 1983 in Châlons-en-Champagne. Rooted in urban and graphic arts, his Italian heritage has deeply influenced his creative journey, as he grew up balancing two cultures: that of his origins and his native country. This dual perspective fostered a keen sense of observation and sensitivity to others, both of which serve as driving forces in his art.
A self-taught artist, Damien's ions for architecture, literature, and human connection enrich his work and approach. His art revolves around the themes of connection and fracture, concepts intrinsic to urban art. Urban art, with its unfiltered presentation in public spaces, creates an immediate link with its audience, breaking down social barriers. Goddog's murals aim to make art accessible to all, crossing social divides and engaging those for whom art is often out of reach.
In his work, the ideas of exchange and dialogue manifest through visual elements reminiscent of pictograms. Influenced by graffiti and Brazilian pixaçaos, he experiments with letters, stripping them of their meaning to explore symbolic representations that approach a universal language. The themes of unity and separation are also present in his canvas works, where continuous lines bring cohesion while simultaneously cutting through surfaces. Figurative elements such as symbols, faces, and landscapes emerge from these abstract compositions, immersing viewers in a poetic and dreamlike world.
Goddog's pastel-toned palette enhances the harmony of his work, exuding softness and tranquility. His art seeks to bring mental peace and foster interaction with others. Each piece invites viewers on a journey through his unique universe, resonating with universal human experiences.
