The oldest rock paintings in tropical and Southern Africa were created by various peoples around the 8th millennium BC. The images in the Nswatugi cave (Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe) are considered among the most famous in Africa. The painting is a stylization of rock art from the Mesolithic era.
