Artiste Bordelais, Jean-Pierre David est un autodidacte déterminé à consacrer sa vie au dessin. Il l'aborde en 1980. En partance pour le service militaire, il glisse dans ses bagages un stylo à encre de chine et du papier.
Il explore le trait dans ses variations infinies et s'oriente tout naturellement vers la gravure au burin sur cuivre, puis sur Plexiglas, technique qui nécessite une grande maîtrise. Marqué par la Pandémie, il bifurque deux décennies plus tard vers une autre voie en abordant l'estampe numérique, qu'il pratique aujourd'hui avec bonheur.
L'art animalier et de façon plus générale la nature représentent sa principale source d'inspiration.
