Art brut – Urban Artefact – Pièce unique
Dans une rue en travaux, au milieu du chaos des infrastructures en mutation, un morceau de plâtre brut a survécu. Modelé par le hasard et les contraintes du chantier, il portait en lui des formes mystérieuses : torsades organiques, bulles figées, empreintes accidentelles. Cette matière anonyme, façonnée par le temps et l’oubli, est devenue une œuvre.
"Les entrailles de la rue Cans" tire son nom du lieu de sa découverte. Ce fragment, à l’origine blanc et abandonné, a été métamorphosé en une sculpture singulière. Peint d’un rouge intense, monté sur un socle en bois massif parfaitement poncé et verni, il est sublimé par une plaque en époxy dorée qui porte son nom.
Entre vestige industriel et évocation organique, cette pièce invite à une réflexion sur la transformation, la mémoire des matériaux et l’esthétique du hasard.
Biography of Joss (Belgium, 52 years old)
My name is Joss, I’m 52 years old and I live in Belgium. My artistic journey began late in life—almost by accident, or rather, by revelation. One day, while walking down a street under construction (rue Cans), my eyes caught a discarded piece of plaster. To most people, it would look like rubble, but to me, it spoke. I saw a shape, a strength, a potential work of art. That was the beginning. I picked it up, worked on it, mounted it on a wooden base, painted it red—and Les entrailles de la rue Cans was born.
I don’t come from the art world. Nothing in my past pointed toward a creative path. But since that day, I’ve been searching for the “rare gem”—an overlooked or forgotten object that sparks an idea and inspires transformation. I have no preference for any particular material, style, or period: only the power of suggestion matters, that aesthetic or poetic shock an object can bring.
My approach is instinctive, free, and deeply connected to the memory of things, to chance, and to the hidden beauty it can reveal. Sometimes, it only takes a fragment to become a sculpture, and a new gaze to give life to what others no longer see.
