Die Serie „Ostblock“ von 2020 greift die repetitiven architektonischen Mikrostrukturen ehemals sozialistischer Staaten hinter dem sogenannten Eisernen Vorhang auf. Diese Dekorationen sind noch immer in ganz Ostdeutschland und in vielen Staaten Osteuropas zu finden. Für den Künstler zählten sie zu den allerersten ästhetischen Eindrücken einer Kindheit vor dem Fall der Mauer.
Diese Stile verschwinden in einer auf Europa und die USA ausgerichteten westlichen Welt, erfahren aber gleichzeitig immer wieder ein Revival, da sie Relikte utopischer Konzepte sind, die nicht aufhören zu existieren.
Den einzelnen Arbeiten gehen kleinere Studien voraus, von denen im Anschluss einzelne in größere Formate übersetzt werden.

Ludwig Schults Werdegang führte über klassisches New York Graffiti, grafische Zeichnung, Bau- und Möbeltischlerei, ein Studium der Kunstwissenschaft und die Dekoration bei Produktionen für Film, Fernsehen und Streaming in die freie Malerei und die Gestaltung von Objekten und Installationen. Die Arbeiten der vergangenen Jahre sind geprägt von einer Verflechtung der in Graffiti und Street Art verwurzelten Indentität mit Konzepten des Abstrakten Expressionismus. Zugrunde liegt dabei stets eine Übertragung der Schichtigkeit im urbanen Raum - die verschiedenen kontrastierenden Flächen, Strukturen, Verweise, Materialitäten. Ludwig Schult lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
