A Spanish comedian asks in one of his monologues: If a nut floating in a pool is still a nut, is it still a nut? In my case, my reflection translated into the canvas has been about the artistic styles defined as “still life.” My thought when approaching this work was whether a still life with fruit could be considered a still life, and if so, how can I separate this concept from the peel of an orange? Are they the same? Given this dichotomy, I have decided to establish that the pieces of fruit that make up a still life, although not eaten, are still alive for me (metaphorically speaking), and therefore, their eaten or discarded remains, still life.
A work that invites us to think and question our artistic categories and concepts.
