As an artist deeply touched by the ephemeral beauty of nature, I’m often driven to capture those fleeting moments where color and form waltz in perfect harmony. This mixed-media piece is my humble attempt to portray the nascent stages of autumn, embodied in a single maple leaf caught between summer’s golden farewell and the coming embrace of fall.
Working in a style I often describe as ‘soft realism,’ my aim is to evoke feeling and atmosphere rather than strict photographic likeness. This work was created using soft pastels, allowing me to achieve that delicate, almost ethereal quality I envisioned. The leaf itself is rendered in a symphony of autumnal hues: gentle yellows still echoing summer’s warmth, blushing pinks hinting at the approaching chill, and whispers of fiery red where the seasonal shift is keenly felt.
The background is a blend of gouache and pastel in mixed colours – turquoise, soft green, and muted yellow – creating a dreamlike setting that both s and enhances the central subject. These background tones serve to emphasize the leaf’s form, allowing it to float serenely within the composition.
For me, this painting is more than just a leaf; it’s about the age of time, the beauty of impermanence, and the quiet, melancholic joy that autumn brings. Take a moment and appreciate the quiet wonders that surround us each day.

I’m Olga Goretskaya, an artist from Ulan-Ude, Republic of Buryatia, Russia, working under the pseudonym OLya Moose. By training, I’m a musician and educator, but my love for painting has been with me since childhood. I’ve honed my skills through both in-person and online courses, exploring watercolor, oil, acrylic, graphic arts, and digital art. My experience with photography and video editing has enriched my artistic arsenal. I work in a mixed media style, blending contemporary Impressionism, Minimalism, and Abstraction, with an emphasis on vibrant colors. My inspiration comes from nature, striving to capture its beauty, joy, and harmony. My work is influenced by masters such as Picasso, Kandinsky, Renoir, Monet, and Van Gogh, as well as many Russian artists. Buryat culture and traditions, Russian decorative art, and, of course, the Siberian wilderness and Lake Baikal – all are vital sources of my inspiration.
