L’artiste l’a imaginé de format réduit en comparaison avec les prototypes actuellement à l’étude. Le rapport de miniaturisation avec l’installation réelle est d’environ 1/10. Stellarator s’inspire donc d’un mini réacteur nucléaire en devenir.
L’empilement des solides de révolution en aluminium est entouré de bobines poloïdales. Leur parement de mosaïque bleutée suggère une production d’énergie proportionnelle au nombre de tores en présence. Situé en partie supérieure, l’éclairage télécommandé évoque l’énergie électrique résultante ou le produit d’un confinement de plasma radioactif.
Sur le plan artistique, le design de l’ouvrage est basé sur un travail des formes souples et arrondies.
Le métal choisi et la tonalité froide de la lumière blanche se combinent de manière cohérente.
Avec ce Stellarator, dont les considérations fonctionnelles sont sous-entendues, Philippe Fares, tente de nous sensibiliser au problème des ressources énergétiques de la planète.
L’instabilité relative des bobines freine toutefois l’avènement de ces réacteurs industriels.
D’ici une quarantaine d’années, la communauté scientifique a bon espoir de résoudre les problèmes inhérents au fonctionnement du Stellarator.
