In Sibirien, wo ich geboren bin, ist kaum etwas in ähnlicher Vielfalt vorhanden wie Holz. Und ebenso vielfältig ist seine Verwendung: vom Brennstoff bis zum Material für hochwertige Möbeln und Accessoires.
Mein erstes Spielzeug war auch aus Holz - von väterlicher Hand geschnitzt. Daher kommt wahrscheinlich meine Liebe und mein Interesse an diesem Rohstoff.
Im Gegensatz zu anderen Materialien, wie Gips oder Bronze, hat Holz seine eigene, oft sehr deutlich ausgeprägte Struktur. Man kann also nicht gegen seinen Willen, sondern nur mit ihm zusammen arbeiten. Seinen Charakter habe ich gelernt zu erkennen und zu schätzen. Meine Skulpturen entstehen durch die Umsetzung der Assoziationen, die das Holz in mir geweckt hat. Aus einem rohen Holzstück mit Charakter entsteht durch meinen Schliff ein Kunstobjekt - das ist die Faszination dieser Arbeit.
