Viсtor Molev "Airport" 2025 45x61cm oil on canvas.
A heartfelt farewell scene, in which nostalgia, bitterness and the inevitability of change are intertwined. The artist dedicated it to the 35th anniversary of his departure from the USSR, and therefore the work is filled with personal experiences and his characteristic good humor.
Three men are sitting on suitcases, performing a sad song about Russia, which they are leaving forever, to the accompaniment of a seven-string guitar. Their faces express mixed feelings - sad smiles show that parting with their homeland is not easy, but already inevitable.
In front of them is a suitcase with a symbolic still life: the Pravda newspaper, a bottle of Russkaya vodka, a pack of Java cigarettes and three pies. These objects are small but significant details of Soviet life, their last meal before flying into the unknown. They don't know what awaits them in the new land, but they know exactly what they are leaving behind.
In his painting, Molev carefully conveys a moment familiar to many emigrants - a feeling of loss, uncertainty and hope at the same time. His style allows him to combine melancholy with warmth, making the scene not only tragic, but also lively and humane.
"Airport" is a painting about transition, about parting with the past and stepping into the unknown. Through details, emotions and mood, it becomes not just an image, but a story inscribed in the destinies of many people.

Victor Molev is a contemporary award-winning Canadian artist. He is working in the styles of Decorative Realism, Fantasy, Symbolism and Surrealism. In the mid-1970s, as an aspiring young artist, he took drawing and painting lessons under the apprenticeship of Moscow sculptor Tatyana Vishnyakova. But it wasn’t until his early twenties that Molev became familiar with the works of Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte, M.C. Escher and Frank Frazetta through books and magazines. Molev was incredibly inspired by these artists which became like mentors to him.

After receiving an education in architecture, the artist worked in the field for ten years. He then worked as a set designer at the Pushkin Opera and Ballet Theater. Both of these jobs are still reflected in the creative processes of the artist. He has created his own unique and intuitive world of dreams and absurdity. His works are sincerely naive and kind.

Victor Molev was born in 1955, in Gorky, Russia. His works were exhibited all over the world, including the Art Museum of Saint-Frajou, . Molev has also participated in numerous international competitions of humorous drawing, and won numerous silver and bronze medals.

The Artist was highlighted in an article in ArtMajeur Magazine:
