The painting "White Seagulls on the Seashore" captures the rugged beauty and dynamic energy of a coastal landscape, where the vibrant blue of the sea meets the muted tones of a rocky beach. Executed in oil on cardboard, the artwork immerses the viewer in the lively ambiance of the shoreline, as seagulls glide gracefully over the crashing waves, embodying freedom and the spirit of the sea.In the foreground, the rocky terrain of the beach is rendered with textured, layered brushstrokes in earthy tones of brown, gray, and green. The roughness of the rocks contrasts with the smoother sand, painted in soft beige and light pink hues. These varied textures add depth and realism to the composition, emphasizing the natural ruggedness of the shoreline. Small details, such as scattered pebbles and subtle streaks of white foam left by the waves, bring the scene to life. The middle ground draws the viewer’s attention to the vibrant blue of the sea, painted in rich, dynamic strokes that convey the movement and energy of the waves. The frothy white crests of the waves create a striking contrast against the deep turquoise water, capturing the endless motion of the ocean as it meets the land. The artist’s use of bold, expressive brushwork in this area highlights the power and rhythm of the sea.Above the waves, a flock of white seagulls soars gracefully, their forms painted with soft, fluid strokes that suggest their effortless flight. The seagulls add a sense of liveliness and connection to nature, serving as a symbol of freedom and the unrestrained spirit of coastal life. Their bright white feathers stand out against the darker tones of the horizon, drawing the viewer’s eye upward. In the background, the horizon is dominated by a moody, overcast sky, painted in shades of gray and soft blue. This contrast between the bright, energetic sea and the somber sky creates a dramatic atmosphere, emphasizing the untamed and ever-changing nature of the coastal environment. The horizon line, where the sea meets the sky, stretches infinitely, evoking a sense of openness and vastness.Through "White Seagulls on the Seashore," the artist conveys the dynamic interplay between land, sea, and sky. The painting captures a moment of harmony within the natural world, celebrating both the raw power and the tranquil beauty of the seaside. The presence of the seagulls adds a layer of symbolism, representing freedom, resilience, and the connection between earth and air. This work invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the invigorating yet soothing ambiance of the coast, where nature’s forces are on full display. With its rich textures, vibrant colors, and evocative composition, the painting serves as a tribute to the timeless allure of the seashore and its ability to inspire wonder and reflection.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
